how i spent my summer
Between mid May and mid July I had carried my easel and paints with me to over 40 different locations to set up and recreate what I saw in front of me. Something about this summer just compelled me to get outside right from the start and I’m really grateful for all the little adventures that yielded some pleasant paintings! However, by the end of July, I found myself not planning my schedule around painting excursions, but instead, planning around trips to the pottery studio… Maybe subconsciously the heat and the bugs were getting to me and lugging my paints around seemed less appealing; or maybe I had become sick of replicating the very green scenery that is indicative of the New Hampshire summer. Or maybe my creative mind simply wanted a change from 2D to 3D… Whatever the reason, the second half of my summer was spent primarily working with clay and I have no regrets! I find it’s necessary to hop around to different media to keep it all feeling fresh. While I can do my best to control whatever medium I’m working in, I can’t always control the way my work relates to itself. In putting together this virtual show I found so many similarities in color and shape and texture between paintings and pieces of pottery and I’ve paired them together for a fun juxtaposition to show how even with different materials, the creative mind follows familiar pathways!
